(Assembling the tools and hardware)
(After having reattached the front tire)
(Close-up of cute basket, with a napkin from Anthropologie thrown in just for fun color)
I feel behind in my blogging responsibilities, since I have this huge cache of photos and posting ideas. However, my new bike had to take precedence.
Say hello to Mabel.
She's a 1960's Texas Ranger with her original paint-job, coaster brakes, and one gear.
Oh, and a new pink chain.
I picked her up yesterday at Bicas, which is an amazing DIY bike shop here in Tucson. They show you how to fix your bike, and you just pay per hour for tool rental. Mabel was already put together and ready to hit the road. The basket really cinched it.
I spent my egg money ($82), which I had been saving up for a Gypsy. But, I think I got the better end of the deal for 1/10th of the price. The only real difference is two speeds and the lack of a basket liner. I can fix the latter...

Ride yer bike on over to San Diego, why dontcha?
I know! Our friends just went to San Diego last weekend, and I was really jealous. Last time we went was Thanksgiving '08 (back when we had the whole week, and not just two days off).
I'd love to make it up to SoCal again, especially since it's just a hop, skip and a jump on I-8.
Is that a picture of your bike on your icon? Very fun.
