Laundry Door Solution for $575

BEFORE: Our wooden French door. You can see a piece of sheetrock is screwed to the bottom half, that was rotting out. There was also a defunct doggy door that our kitten, Grey Claw, was using as an escape hatch.

I would have loved to have just replaced this with the same kind of door, but the Home Depot man assured me that a wooden door in the same location would have similar problems.

Our solution was to replace the whole thing with a window, in order to bring in light (this room is also the light source for our bathroom).
First, our handyman took out the old door, wood frame and all. Gorgeous view - I wish we could leave it this way!
Next, he built a new wooden frame and popped a window in. He left some space at the top to keep it looking more balanced.
This is the view from the outside of the house (Look how faded our brown paint is - a new paint scheme is in the works!).
AFTER: The exterior all framed out, with siding added to cover the gaps and the wooden frame.
AFTER: Interior, with Grey Claw checking out his "TV". Notice that's there's a kitty shelf built out about mid-height. That was my special request.
After they left, I textured the spackel and added a year. The next steps are to repaint both sides of the wall, although I want to bring down some of that texture with a wet kitchen sponge. I just couldn't stand having it be completely smooth on a concrete brick wall.
