March Rain Means Hole Digging

Yesterday was predicted to rain buckets - and it did - so I spent most of the day before digging a small garden plot just in front of the chicken coop.
In the photo above, you can see me getting started with a pointed shovel and a large board to mark out the walking path. I dug up to the edge of the board, adding to the huge pile of dirt.
Finally, I planted in two Goodings Verbena, which should get about 2'x3' and are noted for being strongly heat-tolerant. Also, one Blue Passionvine to match the one on the other corner of the coop. They are a host to butterflies and their larvae all summer, and my goal is to have the vines smother the sunny sides of the coop. It will be a gorgeous view outside our bedroom window.
